Replaced outdated Xiaomi Redmi 2 Prime with Xiaomi Redmi 3S.

Xiaomi Redmi 2 Prime is an improvement over its predecessor, Redmi 2, and provides a very similar experience to that of its predecessor. It looks almost entirely similar to Redmi 2 without any major difference, look-wise. The phone is available in two colors: white and grey.

It has a 1.2 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 processor with 2 GB of RAM and a storage of 16 GB, which is a huge improvement from its predecessor. The screen resolution is 720x1280 and the size is 4.7”. The phone supports 4G on both SIMs along with other connectivity option like Wi-Fi, Bluetooth etc. An 8 MP camera in the rear and a 2 MP from camera are quite satisfactory.

Overall the performance is lucid and perfect for day to day usages, however we found UI animations slightly sluggish. It definitely is a prime contender in this price band going by its performance and the features that it provides in this range.

Replaced Lenovo A6000 Plus with Lenovo Vibe P1M.

The USP of this phone is its excellent specifications. The phone boasts of a RAM of 2 GB with an internal storage of 16 GB which is expandable upto 32 GB. It features an 8 and 2 MP, rear and front cameras respectively, along with 4G, Bluetooth 4.0 and a 2,300 mAH Lithium polymer battery to cater to your heavy power needs.

It runs on Android Kitkat 4.4.4 but is cluttered with unwanted preinstalled apps and bloatwares. Owing to its powerful processor and enhanced RAM, a lag free gaming experience is ensured by this phone. The camera quality is excellent too. The phone can be called powerful in every sense possible but many users have experienced overheating and touchscreen issues after prolonged usages. Lenovo VIBE P1m, an appropriate alternative to Lenovo A6000 Plus is available at Rs.7,999 and provides a much better battery life with its Li-Polymer, 3900 mAh battery. If your primary requirement is battery, then it is certainly the ideal phone to buy in this price range.

Overall Lenovo A6000 Plus is a valuable purchase in this price segment and isn’t going to disappoint you with its performance but the presence of unnecessary bloatwares could be a concern.

Replaced Motorola Moto E (2nd Gen) with Meizu M2.

Second on the list is a budget phone from the smartphone giant, Motorola. This phone takes the legacy of the Moto E (1st Gen) forward and provides a completely lag free experience to the users. The screen size (4.5”) has been a slight improvement from its predecessor but the screen resolution remains unchanged at 540x960 px.

The Snapdragon 410 chip and 1 GB RAM provides a better and faster performance from its counterparts. LTE connectivity on the phone is the most welcome change whereas the lack of removable battery is the biggest deficiency.

Overall the brand name and reliance of Motorola and the bloatware-devoid-stock-android will definitely make it a popular choice among users looking for a phone in this price range.

1) Coolpad Note 3 Lite

  • Aftermarket services
  • average camera quality during low light conditions
  • 3 GB RAM
  • Fingerprint Scanner
  • Good battery
  • up to 64 GB of microSD support

Coolpad Note 3 Lite is a complete package of high-end specs at a very affordable budget price tag of Rs 6,999. It is the only smartphone of this list that supports fingerprint scanner. It is powered by a quad-core processor and is coupled with 3 GB of RAM which ensures smooth and better multi-tasking.

In terms of design, it looks almost similar to the Coolpad Note 3. It flaunts a decent 5-inch display with 720x1280 pixels resolution and offers better pixel density when compared to Coolpad Note 3. Coming to camera, it features a 13MP rear camera with LED flash and a 5MP front camera for selfies. Although the camera quality is pretty good in daylight conditions, it loses some details and clarity in low light shots. It is backed with a massive 2500 mAh battery which is in fact the biggest of this price segment. Also Coolpad Note 3 Lite provides 16 GB of internal storage expandable up to 64 GB via microSD card which is definitely an advantage over other smartphones of this price range.

Overall it seems to be one of the best phones under Rs 7,000 price tag and offers some remarkable features like fingerprint scanner, 3 GB of RAM, bigger battery, 64 GB of microSD support etc. that lacks in other low budget smartphones.

2) Xiaomi Redmi 3S

  • Limited Availability
  • Aftermarket services
  • Average camera quality
  • Outstanding battery backup
  • Good performance
  • Fast charging
  • microSD support up to 128 GB

Xiaomi has launched another budget phone after the humongous success of the Redmi Note 3 and Redmi 2 Prime. The successor, Redmi 3S is a good performing device and packs a solid built metal body. It almost looks like its predecessor Redmi Note 3. When it comes to specification, it offers a lot more than the previous models of Redmi series.

Xiaomi Redmi 3S is powered by a good 1.4 GHz Octa Core Snapdragon 430 processor coupled with 2 GB of RAM and Adreno 505 GPU. It offers a lag free gaming experience even while playing a graphic intensive game. The multitasking and the overall performance are also impressive for such an affordable price. However, comparing the gaming quality of Redmi Note 3 or other budget phones with the high budget flagship phones will be like comparing a Hyundai i20 with a Ferrari.

Coming to display, Redmi 3S flaunts a vivid 5 inches HD display with good viewing angles. Unlike the other phablets, Redmi 3S is compact and makes it adequate for one handed usage. Cameras are definitely a huge aspect of a smartphone, but when it comes to Redmi 3S we will have to make few compromises. It comes with 13 MP rear camera with flash and a 5 MP front camera without flash. It can capture decent photos and videos. Overall the camera performance is decent and satisfactory for the price tag, but not the best we have seen.

It has 16 GB of internal storage. The storage can be further expanded up to 128 GB with a microSD card. However, it uses a hybrid slot and hence you can either use two SIM cards or a SIM card with a microSD card at a time.

Another highlight of Redmi 3S is its massive Li-Ion 4100 mAh battery. It can easily make the phone last for 2 days with a single full charge. It also supports fast charging. Usually the smartphones with bigger batteries are heavy and bulky, but surprisingly the Redmi 3S is compact with 8.5 mm thickness and weighs at 144 grams.

Apart from the ordinary camera, it is certainly the best budget phone available in the Indian market for the price of Rs 6,999.

3) Yu Yuphoria

  • Slightly sluggish
  • Rear camera not upto the mark
  • Sturdy build
  • 2 GB of RAM
  • Value for money

This entry level device from Micromax is one of the finest looking devices in the category. Features like metallic frame, Corning Gorilla Glass 3 gives an exclusive feel to the device bound to take your breath away. Apart from its breathtaking looks, the phone is powered by 1.2 GHZ quad core Snapdragon processor and 2 GB of RAM, to make multitasking on the phone smooth.

The phone comes with CyanogenMod which makes the phone customizable to the extent that you can tinker with almost everything on the device, from altering themes to fixing different privacy setting for every app on the phone. However, lag can be noticed at various time while opening/closing apps. But this is expected from a phone in such a price range. Browsing on the phone is quite satisfactory. The front camera on the phone is quite sharp but the rear camera doesn’t live upto its specs.

Overall an excellent entry level budget phone.

4) Lenovo Vibe P1M

  • Lack of updates
  • Average camera quality
  • Excellent battery life
  • No heating issues
  • Fast charging
  • Stable and balanced configuration

Since the last couple of years, Lenovo has successfully managed to find a safe place in our heart through devices like Vibe X3, K3 Note, K4 Note etc. This Chinese brand is well known for producing powerful devices at a very reasonable price without any compromise in quality. Recently the latest addition to Lenovo family, the Vibe P1M has got a price cut. Now it has earned a place in the list of 5 best phones under 7000 Rs.

Coming to the specifications, it has a 5 inches HD display. The screen is vivid and the viewing angles are also not bad. It is powered by a 1 GHz MediaTek MT6735P Quad Core Processor coupled with 2 GB RAM. The device is capable of handling games without any major lags. Although there might be some occasional lags, but it is definitely not a frying pan. The heat produced during high intensive gaming is very low and is really tolerable.

Lenovo has used a pretty decent 8 MP camera on the rear side and a 5 MP camera on the front side. However, you will be disappointed if you are comparing its camera with Vibe X3 or any other flagship devices. The internal storage is 16 GB which can be expanded up to 32GB via microSD card.

Lenovo Vibe P1M is powered by a huge 3900 mAh battery. Battery backup is very impressive and the main highlight of Vibe P1M. The device can easily last 2 days with normal usage and is capable of surviving more days if the usage is low. Fast charging is also supported. Vibe P1M can also be used as a power bank to charge other devices using OTG cable. Water-resistance and nano-coating are other added features which protects the device from accidental encounters with water.

Overall, the Lenovo Vibe P1M is an all-rounder device with huge battery, good performance and other features. It is a valuable purchase in this price segment and isn’t going to disappoint you with its performance

5) Meizu M2

  • Camera performance not upto the mark
  • Aftermarket services
  • Limited Availability
  • Lack of updates
  • Average battery life
  • Good looks (inspired by iPhone 5C)
  • Storage can be expanded up to 128 GB
  • No heating issues

Chinese brand Meizu is a fresh competitor in the Indian market. Although they have entered the Indian market recently, they have occupied a place through some impressive smartphones at a cheaper price tag. It is an eye grabbing device which looks like the replica of iPhone 5C.

Coming to the specs, it has 1.3 GHz Quad-core Mediatek MT6735 processor paired with 2 GB of RAM. The device delivers smooth and lag-free performance. It sports a 5 inches HD display with 294 ppi pixel density. The screen is protected with a Dragon Trail Glass.

It packs a 13 MP Samsung CMOS camera on the rear side and a 5 MP camera on the front. Both the cameras are good for the price, but as we always say, please don’t expect any flagship traits or DSLR quality on these low budget smartphones. It has 16 GB of internal storage and is expandable up to 128 GB using a microSD card. However, if you are planning to expand the storage then, you can only use a single SIM card as the device comes with a hybrid slot.

Overall, the Meizu M2 is an eye-grabbing device with iPhone inspired looks and decent performance. Even though the battery is average, it is reasonable for the price. However, there are other popular smartphones under Rs.7000 which can certainly be a better choice than a newcomer.
