In an attempt to redefine smartphones, Google is introducing pure Android phones with exclusive twists. Pixel 2 XL is one amongst those smartphones. With many rumors bubbling up, the release of this smartphone is expected to be in this year itself. It was first confirmed by Rick Osterloh, senior vice president of hardware at Google, that the new Pixel would again be a premium offering in 2017.
Pixel 2 XL is codenamed as “Taimen” and is manufactured by LG. The successor of Pixel XL, this novel smartphone will keep the two-tone glass and metal design of the 2016 Pixel. The Google Pixel 2 XL will feature a curved Quad HD screen with flat OLED screen. Google and LG are clearly moving towards the “bezel-less” ideal of smartphones in 2017 for the larger Pixel 2 XL. Some reports suggest that the phone will sport a 5.99 inch AMOLED capacitive touchscreen display with full HD resolution of 1440 x 2560 pixels at a pixel density of 515 pixels per inch. The screen is also protected by a Corning Gorilla Glass Scratch Resistant display. One new addition in Pixel 2 XL will be IP67 rating for water and dust resistance. The phone will also likely sport the second generation of Google’s rear fingerprint scanner. The Pixel 2 XL will also have an “Active Edge” feature which means squeezable frame. The suggested use of the latter is that it’ll serve as a shortcut to Google Assistant. Some reports suggest that the display on the XL 2 will have an “always on” option, so can be set to show notifications or useful information even when the phone is switched off.
What’s most interesting is that Pixel 2 XL will be powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 835. It has an Octacore (4×2.45 GHz Kryo& 4×1.9 GHz Kryo) processor and Adreno 540 GPU. An out of the box approach is that the smartphone will run on Android Oreo 8.0 operating system. Pixel 2 XL will offer 4 GB RAM. It’ll be available in 64GB and 128GB non- expandable storage options. Multitasking including simultaneous use of graphic intensive apps and games will continue without a glitch.
The smartphone will be powered by a non-removable Li-Ion 3520 mAh battery which is considerably larger than the 3000mAh battery on the Pixel 2 along with the support of fast charging. It’s an N/A nano-SIM Smartphone, and connectivity options on the Google Pixel 2 XL include GPS, HotSpot, NFC, Wifi, and Bluetooth.
Apart from the demand for smooth performance, users demand sharp and crisp image. In this regard, the Pixel 2 comes with a 13-megapixel rear camera which is supported with a dual-LED flash to handle low-light photography. To aid video calls and selfies, the smartphone is equipped with an 8-megapixel front-facing shooter.Unlike a lot of 2017 flagships, the Pixel 2 XL will have a single camera at the back. The Pixel 2 XL will have a Wide Colour Gamut and Google Imaging Chip, as well as Optical Image Stabilization (OIS). Whether OIS will be present in both the cameras is yet to be seen. Along with this, various features like geo-tagging, digital zoom, autofocus, face and phase detection, panorama and HDR modes are also present by default.
There is no word on the pricing of the phone but previous leaks have suggested that the new Pixel 2 XL will be priced higher than their predecessors due to a bump in the storage. The most certified notation amidst the surrounding rumors is that the smartphone will offer exemplary performance and superlative specifications.
