Description and Review

What is Moto G5S Plus?

After the huge success of Moto G5 Plus, Motorola didn’t take much time to launch the upgraded version of the phone known as Moto G5S Plus where “S” stands for special edition. It sports a metal uni-body design crafted out of a single block of metal that the previous models lacked. Hands down it is the best premium looking smartphone by Motorola till date and looks really classy with the metal finishes.

At launch Moto G5S Plus (64 GB) comes at a reasonable price tag of Rs.15,000 whereas it’s predecessor costs Rs.14,999 and offers only 32 GB of internal storage. Moto G5S Plus flaunts a bigger 5.5 inches screen with Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection. The display is slightly better than the previous models and the viewing angles are also good.

When it comes to camera, Moto G5S Plus is the first smartphone in Moto G family to offer dual cameras. The earlier model Moto G5 Plus was known as the best camera smartphone to buy under Rs. 15,000 price segment. Its 13 MP RGB sensor and another 13 MP monochrome sensor does a brilliant job by capturing clear and vivid pictures.

Moto G5 Plus and G5S Plus are powered by the same 2.0 GHz Octa Core Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 processor that is proudly known for low battery  consumption. Both of them are paired with 4 GB RAM and Adreno 506 GPU.  It runs on the latest Android 7.1 Nougat with Stock Android UI and will get the future Android version updates for at least next few years.

Moto G5S Plus pros and cons explained:

Premium metal uni-body design:

Moto G5S Plus comes with a metal uni-body design crafted out of a single block of metal that the previous models lacked. It looks beautiful and feels very premium in our hands. Previous models of Moto G series especially Moto G5 Plus is also a reliable budget smartphone with attracting looks but we will definitely miss the appealing metal body of G5S Plus.

Good Performance:

Moto G5S Plus is powered by 2.0 GHz Octa Core Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 processor coupled with 4 GB of RAM and Adreno 506 GPU. Along with the excellent stock UI, Multi-tasking, browsing and other background activities  are fast without any lag. It can also run graphic intensive apps and can handle heavy games without any issues.

Impressive battery backup and fast-charging:

Moto G5S Plus is backed by Li-Ion 3,000 mAh non-removable battery. Many are confused over it since the smaller Moto G5S also has the same battery. However, in real experience the battery does a pretty impressive job, along with the battery friendly Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 processor. During our battery test we played a 3 hr movie and the results were not bad. With full brightness and full sound, the phone used 28 – 30% of battery charge. It is almost similar to the 25% battery use of Moto G5 Plus. However, the screen size is bigger and hence it will take some additional power. On a normal use with some phone calls, few camera clicks, YouTube videos and light gaming activities, it should end up with at least 20 to 30% of battery level. We got 32% left on this test.

The Moto G5S Plus also has fast charging, using Lenovo’s TurboPower technology.  It is not like other so called fast charging smartphones available in the market now. It is FAST and ramps-up the voltage to up to 12V. Also they promise you 6 hours of use by 15 mins of charging.

Latest stock Android:

Moto G5S Plus runs on latest Android 7.1 Nougat with Stock Android UI.  Hence it will get the future Android version updates for at least next few years and also sooner than other custom UI phones. The stock android also helps the processor and ram to handle tasks with ease.

Good rear and front camera (Good daylight photos):

Moto G5S Plus is the first smartphone in Moto G family to offer dual cameras. Its predecessor Moto G5 Plus was earlier known as the best camera smartphone under Rs. 15,000 price segment. Its 13 MP RGB sensor and another 13 MP monochrome sensor captures good quality pictures and 4K videos. It also supports depth mode. You can click an image with the subject in colors and leaving the background in black and white. It can also cut out the subject and change the background.

On the front, 8 MP selfie shooter accompanied with LED flash does an excellent job by capturing detailed selfies even at low light conditions without losing much clarity.

Great value for money:

Moto G5S Plus is a good value for money device as it offers excellent features without sacrificing the reliability.

No major cons at its price:
